I love Christmas. L.O.V.E. Christmas.
I love the wrapping paper, shiny ornaments, and twinlking lights.
I love how people gather together and make time for each other.
I don't love the mess.
I don't love feeling like I need to keep my home company clean just to be prepared.
So I take a few, really simple steps.
Declutter- As I gear up for the holiday season, I do a thorough "fall cleaning" sweep and put away things that aren't necessary. I throw things away, I pack a donate box, and rearrange my storage areas. Starting with less *stuff* give me a little room to manuever during the holiday season.
Wake up to a clean house- Each evening, even when I'm dog tired, I take a couple of minutes to pick up our main living areas and address the clutter spots. There is something about waking up to a clean house that motivates me to take the 30 seconds periodically through out the day to keep it clean.
Take a deep breath- Sometimes, I just have to embrace that things won't be perfect. And that's just one more thing to love about the season.

Hi Kristen, I like your ideas for keeping the home tidy. You are so right, a few minutes here and there make a world of difference and you don't feel like you had to put a lot of effort into it. Happy mess, is a different kind of mess, when you have people around whom you love and they leave their gifts on the table and their shoes in the hall. Oh to have family around more often, right? Merry Christmas. I have recently found your blog and am now following you, and will visit often. Please stop by my blog and perhaps you would like to follow me also. Have a wonderful day. Hugs, Chris
