The fact that all of my Christmas craft posts are starting with “so I was scrolling through Pinterest” is starting make me feel decidedly uncreative. Feeling uncreative sent to Pinterest for some inspiration……wait a minute….*sigh*
So I was scrolling through Pinterest looking for ideas to spiffy up our Christmas décor and I came across this darling little ornament. Seriously. Does it get any cuter? (The answer is NO unless you’re thinking of squishy babies or 6 week old puppies)
{Materials}
Wooden Spools
Red Paint
Craft Glue
White card stock/scrapbook paper
Narrow Ribbon
{Method}
- Paint your spool red (or any other color I suppose- I used the red paint I bought for my Pottery Barn Noel),
- Cut white card stock into strips to fit your spool in width and long enough to wrap all the way around and leave four inches or so hanging.
- Apply a thin layer of craft glue to the spool and wrap with the card stock. I wrapped the paper all the way around quite tightly and secured with a rubber band while it dried.
- Once glue has dried, write a person’s name or your family’s last name and the year at the top of the scroll, then list what they wanted for Christmas.
- Thread ribbon through the middle of the spool and knot. Such a simple but charming way to record how wishes evolve over the years.
I’m planning on making several of these and storing them with my Christmas decorations with the plan of filling one out for my Monkey each year. I’m not sure how many spools I’ll get out of my supplies since I had already had the ribbon, paint and card stock. My best guess though puts this craft at less than $2 each with the ribbon and card stock bought on sale. Very easy to make several at a time since only the writing on the scroll is intricate at all.
